Epic Games have announced the time and date for the next Fortnite update, v18.40.
We have three weeks left of Fortnite chapter 2 season 8 and there have been theories that this will be the final season of chapter 2 with chapter 3 launching next month when this season ends.
We’re not going to get into too much detail about that because we’ll be covering all the hints and clues about chapter 3 coming at the end of this season in a separate article.
What we do know is the v18.40 new Fortnite update will be releasing today after Epic Games confirmed the update is coming on Twitter. This is the penultimate update of the season which will see Naruto finally making his way into the game. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Fortnite update today including server downtime time, early patch notes and more.
Fortnite Servers Downtime Status (November 16th, 2021)
On the official Fortnite Status Twitter account, the v18.40 patch. The Fortnite servers will go down for scheduled maintenance at 4 AM ET (9 AM UTC). Thirty minutes prior, matchmaking will be disabled. If you’re in a game at the time, you’ll be able to finish it but won’t be able to join another one after.

As usual, there’s no information regarding how long the servers will be down for, but we’re guessing they’ll remain down for at least a couple of hours. As soon as they’re back up, we’ll let you know here.
File Size
Once the patch has been pushed to all platforms, we’ll list the file size for each platform below. Be sure to check back during downtime if you’d like to know how large new patch files are.
New Fortnite Update Patch Notes v18.40
We know that Naruto will finally be coming to the game tomorrow with a trailer scheduled to release on the official Fortnite YouTube channel at the same time the servers go down. There’s a chance we could see some challenges for this collaboration, but we’ll know more once data-miners go through the files and leak anything that’s interested.
Apart form the above, we don’t know what content will be added. However, it’s likely we won’t see much new content as Epic have reduced the amount of content we get from these major patches, especially in comparison to chapter 1.
Leaks
As with every major patch, we’ll see new challenges, cosmetics, and upcoming weapons and items leaked. We’ll be releasing our usually leaked skins article along with anything else leaked in the v18.40 patch, We’ll release our v18.40 patch notes as soon as possible.
