December 14 was a massive day in Fortnite, with the official start of the Star Wars crossover, with one of the best in-game live events we’ve seen yet.
Unfortunately, things got off to a bad start after players on every platform were unable to login and the event had to be delayed shortly.
The main attraction was an exclusive scene from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which is set to release on December 19.
Hopefully, most players got in to see the action eventually, but if you missed it, you can watch the Fortnite X Star Wars event in full here, courtesy of Top5Gaming.
New item: Lightsabers
Lightsabers have been added as a new weapon in Fortnite, which you can acquire at various spots dotted around the map.
To get one, you’ll have to find one of the new glowing blue chests. These chests contain four variations of the weapon and spawn in the same locations as standard chests, but are much rarer.
Although these lightsabers are melee weapons, they have more abilities than your standard pickaxe.
By holding the lightsaber in the defensive position you can block incoming fire (it won’t deflect to your opponent though) and can use it in combos with repeated attacks.
Star Wars Challenges
Like past events, there is an exclusive set of challenges also added for the Star Wars crossover: creatively named… Star Wars.
A lot of these challenges focus on the lightsabers, but you’ll also need to find all the TIE fighter crash sites.
TIE Fighter Crash sites (via Dexerto).
At these sites, there are also First Order Blaster Rifles, which are also needed for one of the damage challenges.
What did you think of the Fortnite X Star Wars event? Was it the best movie collaboration in Fortnite yet?
